ALL six children of a doctor have followed in his footsteps by choosing a career in medicine, reported Metro Ahad.
Five of Dr Wan Ahmad Kamal Wan Annuar’s children are consultants in their respective fields.
They are Dr Wan Syazli Rodzaian, 44, a plastic and reconstructive surgery consultant; Dr Wan Syameen Afira, 42, a skin and aesthetic consultant; Dr Wan Syahira Ellani, 39, a histopathology consultant; Dr Wan Syamir Zharif, 37, a kidney consultant; and Dr Wan Syazween Lyana, 36, a skin and aesthetic consultant.
Another daughter, Dr Wan Suzanna Maria, 29, is both a doctor and a lawyer.
Dr Wan Ahmad Kamal, 76, who is a skin specialist, said he and his wife, Julie Yacob, 68, did not plan for all their children to become doctors.
“When they were little, my children often came to my skin clinic after school. They liked watching me treat patients,” he said.
As a parent, Dr Wan Ahmad Kamal said he had always stressed self-confidence.
“We also praise them for all their achievements,” he said.
> Despite having been diagnosed with stage four colon cancer just a fortnight ago, Dr Anis Mardiana Abdullah went on stage to receive her PhD at the Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) convocation ceremony.
Sinar Ahad reported that Anis Mardiana, 45, boldly stood up to receive the PhD in Transport and Logistics from UiTM Pro-Chancellor, the Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin.
“When I was doing my PhD, I had no serious symptoms. I noticed my hands would tremble when I was writing, which I thought was due to stress,” said the mother of one.
“After completing my studies, I went for a check-up and found that I had thyroid cancer.
“When my health deteriorated, I went for a further check-up and the doctor confirmed I had stage four colon cancer,” she said.
Anis Mardiana said she would undergo surgery next week.
