A PURPORTED move to close a fully funded Tamil school with a long history in Ayer Tawar, Perak, is not sitting well with parents and teachers, Makkal Osai reported.
SJK (T) Ladang Cashwood parent-teacher association chairman Prakash Raj Selvaraju claimed the state Education Department had been working to close the school, despite the parents’ objections.
The department reportedly ordered the school to close and for it to merge with SJK (T) Kampong Tun Sambanthan, located 5km away.
Prakash said the move to close the school started during the Covid-19 pandemic on the pretext of a lack of students. But through the efforts of the community and education activists, the number of students increased.
