MUAR: Bersatu’s associate members’ wing will be making its general election debut by contesting in 12 parliamentary seats nationwide in GE15.
The wing’s head, Dr Chong Fat Full (pic), said it is contesting in four parliamentary seats in Johor, two each in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor and Penang, and one each in Perak and Kedah. The party is also contesting four state seats in Perak, he said in an interview.
He added that Bersatu was upbeat because its candidates were a mix of professionals and businessmen between the ages of 37 and 67.
“We have two doctors, a professor and a lawyer,” said Dr Chong, describing the election as a “tough battle” but adding that he was optimistic.
In Johor, Bersatu is contesting in Iskandar Puteri, Segamat, Bakri and Labis.
In the Johor state election in March, the wing contested in eight state seats, but lost in all of them.
“I hope that voters will give us a chance as an alternative to Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Harapan,” he said.
Bersatu is contesting a total of 120 seats nationwide in GE15.
Asked why he was not running, he said he decided to stay out as he wanted to get more seats for the wing and go around the country to help its candidates in their campaigns.
Dr Chong was previously the wing’s deputy head.
