AN elderly couple in Tamil Nadu, India, reportedly committed suicide after their soon-to-be engaged daughter eloped with her boyfriend, reported Malaysia Nanban.
Sundra Moorthi, 65, and his wife, Sumathi, 50, had an 18-year-old daughter named Pushpa Rohini who was in her third year in college.
The couple, who were farmers, had arranged her marriage with a man from a neighbouring village and were busy organising the engagement ceremony.
Two days before that, Pushpa left the house to retrieve an item from her college but she did not return.
As the couple looked for their daughter, they learned that she had been in a relationship with a 24-year-old man and had eloped with him.
Shocked and embarrassed by her decision, the girl’s parents killed themselves.
