PETALING JAYA: Malaysia recorded 2,773 new Covid-19 infections on Friday (July 1), bringing the total number of cases in the country to 4,568,828 since the pandemic began.
The Health Ministry’s CovidNow portal reported that 2,769 of Friday’s new Covid-19 cases were locally transmitted while there were four imported infections.
The ministry’s GitHub data repository, meanwhile, showed that this was the third day in a row more than 2,500 new Covid-19 infections were reported in the country.
The CovidNow portal also reported that 1,984 individuals recovered from Covid-19 infections on Friday, which brings the number of active cases in the country to 30,217.
Of Friday’s active infections, 28,892, or 95.6% of the total, are observing home quarantine while 26 people, or 0.1%, are at Covid-19 quarantine and treatment centres throughout the country.
A total of 1,252 patients, or 4.1% of active cases, are currently being treated at hospitals nationwide with 47, or 0.2%, warded in intensive care units (ICU).
Of those admitted to ICU on Friday, 19 are unventilated while 28 require ventilator support.
Malaysia’s current ICU utilisation rate stands at 63.3% with 10.5% being used for Covid-19 patients.
Meanwhile, the GitHub data repository reported that there were six death due to Covid-19 on Friday, bringing the total number of fatalities in the country to 35,771 since the pandemic began.
Two deaths each were reported in Penang and Perak, while there was one death each recorded in Johor and Negri Sembilan.
