PETALING JAYA: Malaysia detected 244 new Covid-19 infections on Sunday (Jan 15) bringing the total number of cases in the country to 5,032,677 since the pandemic began, says the Health Ministry.
The ministry’s KKMNow portal reported that 242 of Sunday’s new Covid-19 cases were locally transmitted while there were 2 imported infections.
The portal also said that 401 individuals recovered from Covid-19 infections on Sunday, bringing the total number of recoveries in the country to 4,985,292 since the pandemic began.
There are currently 10,477 active Covid-19 cases in the country, with 10,008, or 95.5%, patients observing home quarantine.
KKMNow reported that 449 indidivuals, or 4.3% of active cases, were being treated in hospitals as at 11.59pm Sunday while there were 20 people, or 0.2%, warded in intensive care units (ICU) throughout the country.
Of those in ICU as at 11.59pm Sunday, 11 were unventilated while 9 individuals required ventilator support.
The portal also reported that the country’s overall hospital utilisation rate stood at 72.5% nationwide, while the ICU utilisation rate was currently 63.6%.
No new deaths due to Covid-19 were reported on Sunday and a check on the Health Ministry’s GitHub data repository shows that Sunday was the third day in a row where no new Covid-19 fatalities were recorded.
