PETALING JAYA: Malaysia recorded 1,990 new Covid-19 cases on Friday (Sept 9), bringing the total number of infections in the country to 4,801,653 since the pandemic began.
The Health Ministry’s CovidNow portal reported that 1,988 of Friday’s new Covid-19 infections were local transmissions while there were two imported cases.
Recoveries outpaced new cases on Friday, with 2,016 individuals recovering from Covid-19 infections.
The CovidNow portal also reported that there are currently 27,370 active Covid-19 cases in the country, with 26,007 individuals, or 95% of active infections, observing home quarantine and nine receiving treatment at quarantine and treatment centres nationwide.
A total of 1,287 Covid-19 patients, or 4.7% of Friday’s active cases, are seeking treatment in hospitals with 67, or 0.3%, warded in intensive care units (ICU).
Of those in ICU, 21 are unventilated while 46 patients require ventilator support.
The CovidNow portal also reported that Malaysia’s overall ICU utilisation rate stood at 58.6% as of 11.59pm Friday, with Covid-19 patients accounting for 18.3% of the nation’s ICU utilisation rate.
Meanwhile, the Health Ministry’s GitHub data repository reported that there were four deaths due to Covid-19 detected on Friday, bringing the total number of fatalities due to Covid-19 to 36,724 since the pandemic began.
It reported that one Covid-19 death each was recorded in Negri Sembilan, Perak, Terengganu and Kuala Lumpur.
