PETALING JAYA: Malaysia detected 142 new Covid-19 infections on Monday (Jan 23), bringing the total number of cases in the country to 5,034,972 since the pandemic began.
The Health Ministry’s KKMNow portal reported that 141 of Monday’s Covid-19 infections were locally transmitted while there was one imported case.
According to the ministry’s GitHub data repository, this is the first time daily Covid-19 cases have dropped below the 200 mark since Sept 30, 2020.
The KKMNow portal also reported that 267 individuals recovered from Covid-19 infections on Monday, bringing the total number of recoveries in the country to 4,987,828.
As at 11.59pm Monday, there were 10,212 active Covid-19 cases in Malaysia, with 9,859, or 96.5%, observing home quarantine and 337, or 3.3%, seeking treatment at hospitals.
KKMNow also reported that there were 16 Covid-19 patients being treated at intensive care units (ICU) as at 11.59pm Monday, with 11 patients requiring ventilator support.
According to the portal, Malaysia’s current nationwide hospital utilisation rate stands at 64.5% while the ICU utilisation rate is at 61.1%.
There were no new deaths due to Covid-19 reported on Monday.
