PETALING JAYA: Malaysia recorded 2,153 new Covid-19 infections on Sunday (May 8), bringing the total number of cases in the country to 4,458,889 since the pandemic began.
The Health Ministry’s CovidNow portal reported that 2,151 of Sunday’s Covid-19 cases were local transmissions, with only two imported infections.
Recoveries continued to outpace new infections, with 2,869 reported on Sunday.
The CovidNow portal also reported that there are currently 22,556 active Covid-19 cases in the country, of which 21,363, or 94.7%, are observing home quarantine and 30 individuals, or 0.1% of active cases, have been admitted to quarantine and treatment centres nationwide.
Currently, 88 Covid-19 patients, or 0.4% of active cases, are being treated at intensive care units (ICUs) nationwide, with 59 individuals requiring ventilator support.
CovidNow also reported that Malaysia’s current ICU utilisation rate stands at 54.7% overall, with 11.9% used for Covid-19 patients.
Malaysia recorded four deaths due to Covid-19 on Sunday, including 3 brought-in-dead (BID) cases.
The Health Ministry’s GitHub data repository reported that two of Sunday’s Covid-19 deaths were reported in Selangor, while there were one each in Perak and Kedah.
