PETALING JAYA: Malaysia detected 405 new Covid-19 infections on Sunday (Jan 8), bringing the total number of cases in the country to 5,030,313 since the pandemic began.
The Health Ministry’s KKMNow portal reported that 397 of Sunday’s new infections were locally transmitted while there were eight imported cases.
The portal also reported that recoveries continued to outpace new cases on Sunday, with 441 individuals recovering from Covid-19, bringing the total number of recoveries in the country to 4,982,044 since the pandemic began.
KKMNow also reported that as at 11.59pm Sunday, there were 11,394 active Covid-19 infections in the country, with 95.4% of patients, or 10,763 individuals, observing home quarantine.
A total of 599 individuals, or 5.3% of active infections, were being treated in hospital while there were 32 patients, or 0.3%, warded in intensive care units nationwide, as at 11.59pm Sunday.
The portal also reported that 20 Covid-19 patients in ICU, or 0.2% of the total, were unventilated while 12 required ventilator support.
According to KKMNow, Malaysia’s current hospital utilisation rate stood at 72.8% while the ICU utilisation rate was at 67.3%.
Meanwhile, the Health Ministry’s GitHub data repository reported that as at 11.59pm Sunday, one death due to Covid-19 was recorded in Selangor.
This brings the total number of Covid-19 fatalities in the country to 36,875 since the pandemic began.
