PETALING JAYA: Malaysia recorded 1,921 new Covid-19 cases on Tuesday (June 21), bringing the total number of cases in the country to 4,544,626 infections since the pandemic began.
The Health Ministry’s CovidNow portal reported that 1,807 of Tuesday’s new Covid-19 cases were local transmissions while 114 imported infections were logged.
There were 1,716 recoveries on Tuesday, bringing the cumulative number of recoveries in Malaysia to 4,482,734 since the pandemic began.
The portal also reported that there were 26,155 active cases currently in the country, with 25,059, or 95.8%, observing home quarantine and 15 individuals, or 0.1%, admitted to low-risk quarantine and treatment centres.
The CovidNow portal reported that 1,081 patients, or 4.13% of the total, were currently admitted to hospital for treatment. The number of Covid-19 patients warded at intensive care units (ICU) throughout the country stands at 29, with 20 of these patients requiring ventilation support.
The ICU utilisation rate nationwide stood at 62.1%, with eight states or localities recording ICU usage rates of more than 60%.
Selangor had the highest ICU utilisation rate at 89.3%, followed by Kedah (75.3%), Kelantan (72.8%), Johor (71.4%), Kuala Lumpur (71%), Putrajaya (70%), Perlis (68.4%) and Negri Sembilan (65.3%).
Meanwhile, the Health Ministry’s GitHub data repository reported that two Covid-19 deaths were reported on Tuesday.
This brings the death toll to 35,737.
