A FAMILY with nine children in Hulu Selangor is surviving on the mother’s meagre income as a cleaner in a secondary school, Malaysia Nanban reported.
Mohan, 44, and Letchumi, 33, live in a rented house in Kalumpang with their six daughters and three sons, aged between one and 16 years old.
Mohan has the use of only one arm, so only Letchumi works to support the family. They only have RM750 to spend after paying rent and utilities.
Three of the children are in school while three others are unable to do so because they do not have birth certificates or identity cards.
> A self-proclaimed swami in Karnataka, India, has been charged with drugging and sexually molesting 10 girls at his ashram, the daily also reported.
Muruga Saranaru, who operated an ashram and school in Chitradurga, was detained in September after two girls initially lodged reports against him. The ashram warden, two workers and a lawyer were also arrested along with Muruga.
Last month, more students from the school came forward with allegations against him. Police have set up a special task force to investigate the suspects and the ashram.
The task force submitted a 694-page dossier against the swami, including details of his alleged modus operandi of giving drug-laced apples to the students before molesting them.
