NATIONAL Union of Heads of Schools president Lim Bee Khim will be retiring after 35 years of teaching, Sin Chew Daily reported.
Lim, who started as a teacher at SJK (C) Kuen Cheng 1 in 1987, worked her way up to become the headmistress of SJK (C) Taman Connaught before retiring this Thursday.
In between, she also helmed other positions such as the assistant school head of SJK (C) Kung Min, the headmistress of SJK (C) Kuen Cheng 1 and an education department inspector for Chinese primary schools.
In 2020, Lim was elected to become the first female president of the union.
She had never expected that such a heavy burden would fall on her shoulders.
“They said I was the only option. Otherwise, it would be difficult for the union to continue operating.
“Moreover, I am based in Kuala Lumpur and it is easier for me to go to the Education Ministry in Putrajaya,” she added.
In her final message as the union head, Lim urged the teachers to emphasise moral values, guiding children to be good.
“As a person, one needs to know courtesy and integrity.
“We need to teach pupils how to solve their own problems, including getting along with others and I believe those with a good foundation on this will have a bright future,” she added.
> The daily also reported that Taiwanese-American singer Wilber Pan lost 23kg after two months of exercise and diet.
“In May, I reached a peak of 93kg and now, I am around 70kg, but how long will this last?” he poked fun at himself.
Fans compared his “before and after” photos and commented that Pan looked much healthier now.
The 42-year-old reportedly said he was a foodie who loved braised pork rice, Japanese cuisine and hotpot.
In a reality show, The Rap of China, recently, Pan showed some of his home-cooked meals consisting of boiled chicken and vegetables to show his determination to lose weight.
