SUNGAI PETANI: Parti Pejuang Tanah Air (Pejuang) is willing to remain in the opposition after the 15th General Election (GE15), says Tun Mahathir Mohamad.
The party chairman said that Pejuang will not work with Barisan Nasional, Pakatan Harapan or Perikatan Nasional.
“We are willing to work with others but not the three that I mentioned. There are some parties in Sabah and Sarawak, some in Peninsular Malaysia and even independents we can work with if they can conform to our standards,” he said.
Dr Mahathir said this after attending the Rapat Umum Sayang Bangsa & Negara with Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad programme at Cinta Sayang Resort here on Friday (Nov 11) night.
He was commenting on Barisan chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s comment that the coalition has not ruled out the possibility of working with other coalitions and parties.
Ahmad Zahid had said the possibilities will only be explored after the outcome of GE15 is known.
He had said that Barisan’s willingness to cooperate with others were due to the coalition’s aim to create political stability post-elections but stressed Barisan focus should be on winning the national polls.
On this, Dr Mahathir said that the Umno-led Barisan is very strong and added that there is no need for the coalition to form a pact with other parties after elections.
He also said that Barisan has 13 partners in the coalition and stood a very good chance in every election, and will be a strong government.
Dr Mahathir however added that Umno has since been split because of Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
“Because of this no party will get the absolute majority, in this case the present Barisan needs to find partners to form a government,” he said.
