DELAYS in finalising the allocation of land for SJK (T) Ladang Wellesley have dismayed the Indian community in Kulim, said the school’s outgoing parent-teacher association (PTA) chairman S. Ramalingam at its annual general meeting, Malaysia Nanban reported.
The school and the temple next to it are on land reportedly held by a private company.
Efforts to identify the land title, separate it and assign the proper title have been ongoing for 15 years, with little progress.
School board chairman S. Paramesvaran said the school was allocated 1.6ha of land in 2017 but the title had not been handed over.
The lack of the title has also meant the school, which had one of the highest student numbers among Tamil schools in Kulim, cannot carry out upgrades.
Ramalingam, in his speech, said he was giving up his PTA position so that younger leaders can take up the mantle, while he intends to join the school board to keep pursuing the matter.
