KUALA LUMPUR: An investigation is underway over an allegation that three policemen had allegedly extorted a man near a mall in the city.
A photo of the alleged incident has since gone viral on social media.
Brickfields OCPD Asst Comm Amihizam Abdul Shukor said it was alleged that the policemen were checking a man’s mobile phone and discover a gambling application.
“They supposedly found out the man had won RM4,300.
“The allegation stated that each of the policemen had asked for RM100,” he said in a statement Thursday (Aug 4).
The man was not satisfied and he subsequently uploaded his grievances to social media, he said.
“We are tracking down the man involved in the alleged incident to record his statement to assist with the investigation,” he said.
ACP Amihizam advised the public to report abuse of power or wrongdoings by police personnel or officers as soon as possible.
“Report it to the nearest police station. We don’t check mobile phones randomly.
“Such checks are done during a proper investigation,” he said.
He urged those with information to contact the Brickfields police hotline at 03-2297 9222, the Kuala Lumpur police hotline at 03-2115 9999 or the nearest police station.
