Rohana surrenders documents to MACC

Posted on Mac 1, 2022 by min

PUTRAJAYA: Graft investigators have obtained documents from Datuk Rohana Rozhan (pic)and will apply to the US Department of Justice to obtain information for its probe into the former Astro Malaysia Holdings Bhd group chief executive officer.

It is learnt that Rohana had met with investigators again yesterday to surrender some documents.

Sources said Rohana spent about three hours with graft investigators, where she was likely to have explained the contents of the documents that she had brought along.

However, it is not known what the documents were.

“Investigators recorded her explanation on the documents and had also asked for some clarifications over certain issues,” sources said.

This is the second time graft investigators have called Rohana.

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) called her after Tim Leissner, the former Goldman Sachs Group Inc banker, told a US federal court during Roger Ng’s trial on Feb 22 that he gave the former Astro CEO, with whom he had an affair for a decade, a US$10mil home in London.

Ng is accused of conspiring to launder money and violate an anti-bribery law involving 1MDB funds.

On Feb 24, Rohana was summoned by the MACC to record her statement.

Leissner claimed his ex-lover had blackmailed him into buying her the London home and threatened to expose his involvement in 1MDB.

The relationship lasted from 2003 to 2013, Leissner told the jury.

Last week, the MACC issued a freeze order on assets and a bank account belonging to Rohana after Leissner claimed the house was bought using money from 1MDB.

MACC is also applying to the United States Department of Justice (DoJ) to secure more information obtained from Leissner for its investigation into Rohana.
