PUTRAJAYA: The Finance Minister is playing coy over talk that he is eyeing the Kuala Selangor parliamentary seat for the coming general election.
Days after announcing that his ministry would “adopt” the constituency, Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz sidestepped questions about his possible candidacy.
“At the moment I am focused on my work at the ministry. There are a lot of issues that we are facing that need to be resolved,” he said.
“We also have to focus on economic recovery. So let me focus on that,” he said at a Hari Raya do yesterday.
Asked if he would be a candidate in the 15th General Election (GE15), Tengku Zafrul gave the same reply.
“I’m focusing on my work for now,” he said.
Talk is rife that he will be contesting the seat, now held by Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad, after Tengku Zafrul announced his intention to make Kuala Selangor the “adopted district” of the ministry.
Although he said the “adoption” was to ensure the progress of the district in the near future, it has only fuelled speculation of his candidacy for the seat.
